lyrics

No one’s ever robbed the ghost train, but I had a fool proof plan.
The conductor’s got a diamond eye that's worth a hundred grand,
and every one of those ghost passengers has got a purse full of gold,
all festooned with antique jewelry at least a hundred years old.

No one’s ever robbed the ghost train, but no one knows what I know.
The line ferried only the richest of the rich, every last one having sold their soul.
People called it "The String of Pearls." It made a beeline from Washington D.C.
to Grand Central in old Manhattan... until the Devil came to collect his fee.

The Devil dressed up as a poor beggar and went row to row and seat to seat
shaking an old tooth in a copper cup asking for a coin to get something to eat.
One by one the damned rebuffed him. Many talked louder and turned away.
Others growled like dogs, “for what? Get a job if you want to be paid.”

And with every single rejection, the Devil’s dark heart rejoiced,
for he knew the crash was coming and he knew they’d made their choice.
So he through off his meager robes and revealed his horns and staff,
and with a waive of his wand of swan’s bone he tore the train in half.

No one’s ever robbed the ghost train, but it’s so obvious how it’s done.
If you can trick a ghost into giving you gold, the whole curse will be undone.
And the Devil may roar, his tail may twitch, but there’s little he can do.
I’ve got a fool proof plan, my dear, but the rest is up to you.

You see, I’ve been a prisoner here for more years than you’d believe.
I wasn’t one of the rich ones, but when the Devil begged from me,
I lied and said I had nothing. But I had this golden band
which I intended for my beloved when I offered her my hand.

So humbly do I propose to you, a dead man to the living.
Come see me on the ghost train. I’ve a thing that needs some giving.
And all the riches of the train if you’d accept this little token
will fall to the floor yours forevermore, the curse finally broken.

No one’s ever robbed the ghost train, but I had a fool proof plan.
The conductor’s got a diamond eye that's worth a hundred grand,
and every one of those ghost passengers has got a purse full of gold,
all festooned with antique jewelry at least a hundred years old.
