AN ARRANGEMENT IN 7/8

She is arranging the flowers
in a dining room
I'll never see again.

Tonight I'll leave her in pieces
I carry always on
my trips around the sun.
Where do they go?

Down to the cafe we'd frequent,
when we weren't feeling poor,
the people know us there.
They asked about you.

And life is light in the springtime.
Love is so wonderful.
The dead are everywhere.

I felt so young that September.
The leaves were colorful.
I see your face in them.

Someday we'll go out for coffee.
She will be beautiful,
and I will look destroyed.

She'll show me stills of her children.
This isn't happening.
There was all this hope.
Where did it go?

She will wait until Monday,
cause she believes in me,
I believe in her.

I will return on a Tuesday.
She is the one for me.
This can't be happening.
Where will I go?
