lyrics

GO FREE

A fist of white birds in a wheat tree
reach and return,
reach and go free.

Sunlight invites itself into your room.
Coming so fast?
Leaving so soon?

Trade the trunk at your feet
for a branch you can't reach,
for the eensiest twig at the top,
where the Sun isn't smooth,
but more soft and direct —
light made a shade one too hot.

Old young braid the sidewalk streets
trolling for tragedy,
trolling for keeps.

Headlights work the bangs long nights.
Agree with lights.
Squint at signs.

We two are true blue Canadian geese.
Pink salmon will struggle.
Peonies peek.
Apples for apples.
Snows crush on sleet.

Trees, wheat trees, wheat trees.
